What Our People Are Saying
Family Program Testimonial
Our family entered the Possibilities program in the beginning of 2021. Our son has struggled with substance abuse for over 10 years; a condition that has had a cascading effect on our immediate and extended families and many friends. Our son was a leader, doing well in school and was a multi-sport athlete. My wife and I have had long professional careers on the University of Saskatchewan campus. However, addiction does not discriminate.
Over the years, our son has tried several times to overcome his illness (yes,… addiction is a disease, not a weakness of character). Our son sees an addiction specialist and a psychiatrist, but these two professionals are vastly oversubscribed. Other than adding to our son’s laundry list of subscriptions, little has changed. We have tried self-treatment, family counselling, and even enrolled our son in two separate short-term recovery programs in Minnesota and Mexico.

We learned of Possibilities through one of their very qualified staff who knew our son from high school. This reacquaintance, turned out to be a fortunate event for us. The staff member firmly and kindly convinced our son and my wife and I to join the program.
Our son attends the program 5 days a week and checks in on weekends. Weekday sessions are 1-3 hours long and includes a social interaction evening with current and past Possibilities’ clients. At first, it was like pulling teeth to get our son to go. Now he is being proactive about attending and is commenting on how he is enjoying his interactions with the Possibilities team and the other clients (whose numbers grow weekly). My wife and I attend a weekly video conference session with pre-reading that has helped us learn how to support our son and each other through the ups and downs of recovery. We feel we now have the tools to help with our son’s recovery.
My wife and I will endorse Possibilities because we have only been there just over a month and we are seeing a positive change in our son and ourselves. We can guarantee that we will stick with this program to the end of the recovery phase and then beyond. Possibilities’ long-term approach is by far the best program we have ever experienced.
I mentioned previously that our son has recently started enjoying the weekly sessions. This is partly because there are more clients joining from several different backgrounds. While it is unfortunate that Possibilities is getting more clients as word of their program spreads, it is also an opportunity to bring additional support to the growing demand in the province for addiction recovery support .

To Whom It May Concern:
I am so thankful for your generous donations to Possibilities Recovery Center. Your support has made it possible for me to attend their program and it has changed my life.
I am a 46-year-old mother and grandmother. I have suffered many traumas throughout my life. I was a single mother that found herself trapped in a toxic relationship that took me down a path I was not meant to be on. I was living daily with the traumas of narcissistic abuse and couldn’t escape it. I felt broken and alone in this world. Yet my trauma didn’t end there. I had been introduced to street crime and gangs and this life was happening all around me. This is not who I was. I didn’t victimize anyone, rather I found myself isolating and longing for a true friend. My kind heart just wanted to help others not realizing I was being used for my vehicle and money. I began using crystal meth thinking it would bring people into my life. Meth eventually took me to a place that made me think death was the only way out of this horror. I had been hospitalized a few times for suicide attempts. Each time just resulted in me being put on medication and sent back out on the streets.

I couldn’t help myself and the system wasn’t helping me either. I would cry at night and pray to God to end my life. I was so afraid of this world. I didn’t want to die, but I saw no reason to live. If the purpose of my life was to be deceived, abused, and financially depleted, I could not go on. At this point I was getting high to die.
However, I had a little bit of fight left in me. In one last desperate attempt I searched for anyone to help me. I came across Possibilities Recovery Center. I took a chance and sent them an email explaining my situation and asked them to help me because meth was killing me.
They set up a time for me to come in and talk. They listened to me with no label or judgement. When I arrived, they found my situation to be very severe and called an ambulance for medical assessment. I was taken to the hospital, given a medication to sleep and then shown out the door.
This felt like my end but I walked in -40 weather back to Possibilities desperately hanging to life. When I arrived, they immediately took me in. They witnessed how the system had left me for dead. With no hesitation they said they were going to help me, they were here for me, and I didn’t have to do this alone. I’ve been substance free since this point. My hope has been restored and I’m beginning to see a life worth living. With the help of the centre I have been educated on the roots of my addiction. I receive the counselling needed to understand my traumas and given the tools to cope with them. The group setting has helped me socialize, and just as I was told, I have not had to face any hurdle alone.
The staff has gone out of their way to involve me in the community. They invited me to attend church with them on the weekend which has restored my faith. I never thought I could ever trust or love again. Now attending the centre, thanks to the financial support from our community, I have every reason to live and give back and I’m so very grateful!

I would like to tell you about Possibilities Recovery Center. I found myself at a point in my life where it was no longer possible to avoid dealing with the issues that were creating turmoil and imbalance in my life, including substance addiction. The normal course of action for this situation would be to enroll in a 3-4 week in-patient rehabilitation program which seemed very daunting, overwhelming and uncomfortable to say the least. I was happy and relieved to discover that Possibilities Recovery Center offered an intensive 8-week out patient substance abuse rehabilitation program. Not only would I receive the help that I needed, but I could be at home every night

The people at Possibilities are all very professional, knowledgeable, experienced and thorough. They quickly helped me remove my anxieties about beginning such a journey and showed me how to find the path to recovery. We worked together to help me find the honesty and courage to identify the problems and obstacles that were preventing me from having the life that I wanted and needed and deserved. They showed me how to build my confidence and self esteem and worked towards being the person that I wanted to be. They helped me create a recovery/relapse prevention plan and support group to ensure success in the future. The program was adjusted and adapted to fit my specific requirements. I will continue to use what I have learned to enjoy the life I now proudly live.
I will always be grateful to the people at Possibilities Recovery Center for all that they have done for me and feel confident in the fact that they will still be there for me if I seek more guidance.
Thank you all so very much!

I found out about Possibilities while searching for outpatient care upon departure of a 5-week intensive inpatient recovery program.
I was struggling finding a counsellor in addictions that would not only suffice for my return-to-work program agreement that I needed to complete but to also help me understand the addiction as well as the source so I could become more aware of why I chose to drink and how I could change that thinking. Finding Joanne as the addictions counsellor has been one of the great gifts Possibilities has given me.

December 2022, I relapsed while I was on holidays for three weeks and over the course of Xmas holidays, I was able to hide in my relapse. I had to call in sick to work and let them know I had relapsed, asked for help with rehabilitation again. This time I reached out to Joanne at Possibilities she worked hard on trying to find me anywhere that would take me in even for a few days for detox but due to Covid outbreaks there was no where that would take me. I was able to detox on my own, with the help of prescription from my family doctor, and knowing the team at Possibilities was a phone call or text away 24 hours 7 days a week. That same week Joanne advised I could benefit from the outpatient program they were offering, and I could start immediately remote via Zoom.
This was a perfect fit for me, I was able to attend all programming, groups, and counselling sessions via Zoom. I was able to return to work part time as I could still attend the outpatient programming which a benefit to myself as well as my employer. The outpatient program helped me and guided me through situations in real life that I needed to address compared to previous inpatient treatment I was taught many tools and ideas but was unable to implement into active use until a complete return home which didn’t work out so well.
I have benefitted, remained substance free, and still can attend the Possibilities Step Group meetings and the Social Skills program which is a fantastic way for me to stay connected with the people I had attended with as well as meeting new people.
Continuing support through the Possibilities team is still available to me via their 24-hour cell, and ongoing counselling sessions I have with Joanne help me learn new ways to respond and deal with today’s challenges.
